The rise of Planet Health
a natural health company like no other

Planet Health was founded in February 1996 by Mandy and Peter Harwood, who shared a vision to create a natural health distribution company like no other.

By supplying innovative premium natural health products, supported by customer care exceeding all expectations, Planet Health is today the market leading national distributor and marketer of premium natural health and beauty products in Australia, and a growing force in the UK, Europe and Asia.

This is the story of Planet Health’s amazing journey so far:

Planet Health is launched in 1996 and in the first year of trading, we were appointed as Australia’s sole distributor for Efamol, the world leading research based international brand for essential fatty acids. Over the next three years, Efamol sales more than doubled through Planet Health’s passion and focus.

1999 starts with a bang as Lifestream appoints Planet Health as sole agent for Australia, and then ends with a crash, as the Efamol brand is purchased by global giant Nutricia, who discontinue contracts with all distributors worldwide – a major issue when the brand represents 60% of your turnover! However for Mandy and Peter, ‘the bigger the challenge, the bigger the opportunity.’ They had already identified many growth opportunities for their business and so they moved swiftly to ‘Plan B’. This included the relocation of Planet Health in 2000 from Sydney to larger premises in Bowral, sitting within the stunning Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Plan B business expansion allowed for future growth, and included the addition of the unique Australian Bush Flower Essences brand to the selective portfolio.


From 2001 to 2004 Planet Health sales continue to exceed all forecasts, creating more employment opportunities in beautiful Bowral and nationwide. In 2003, Peter and Mandy purchased the Bowral premises and completed major refurbishments designed to create an outstanding working environment for their team, while delivering excellence in customer service. With the paint barely dry, we were already outgrowing our premises, so we swiftly purchased the building next door and knocked through to extend our operations. In the same year, a sales office was opened in Melbourne, and in 2004 Planet Health was a finalist in the Telstra Small Business Awards.

In 2005, new owners took over a declining Efamol business from Nutricia and offered the brand back to Planet Health, giving us sole import, marketing and distribution rights for Australia. During 2006, celebrations of our hugely successful 10 years in business included the launch of our own brand Qsilica – now the market leading beauty supplement in Australia. Qsilica supplements were created to promote ‘Beauty from the Inside Out’ through healthy, strong connective tissue, smooth flexible skin and strong hair and nails. In 2009, Planet Health successfully launched the premium Watson & Son Black Label Manuka Honey with its remarkable healing properties.

By February 2010, Planet Health had expanded internationally with the launch of a UK office and distribution centre based in England’s beautiful and historic Cotswolds. Brands for our initial UK launch included the incredibly successful Qsilica, Watson & Son Manuka Honey and Australian Bush Flower Essences. Our premium selected customers in the UK grew to include Selfridges, Revital, Whole Food Markets and suppliers to royalty John Bell & Croyden. During 2010 we also successfully launched Fisiocrem in Australia, now a dominant brand in the topical pain relief category.

2011 was another exceptional year with the launch of our Qsilica range of natural skin care. Qsilica was also launched in Singapore and New Zealand. We added to our portfolio when Australian Bush Flower Essences launched ‘Love System’, the first natural skin care brand created to combine emotional wellbeing and natural certified organic ingredients.

In 2012 our Qsilica REMOVE Makeup and Grime Cleansing Gel was awarded ‘Best Overall Skin Care Product’ and ‘Best Face Care Product’ at the 2012 FreeFrom Skincare Awards held at the Allergy & FreeFrom Show at London’s Olympia.

We were delighted when our new Qsilica ONE-A-DAY Skin, Hair and Nails Formula was awarded Joint Winner at the UK’s Janey Loves 2013 Platinum Awards in the ‘Best Vitamin/Mineral Supplement’ category, and this innovative supplement was also Highly Commended in the ‘Best Nail Product’ category. Qsilica PRO COLLAGEN, a great new way to naturally boost collagen levels in the skin (no animal collagen, no needles!) was launched in Australia to great interest from the health and beauty media.

A highlight for 2014 was the launch of a targeted dual action 'skin regeneration whilst you sleep' with Qsilica BEAUTY SLEEP Night Cream and Tablets. With the Night Cream winning the coveted Nature & Health beauty award for Best Night Cream for 2016, Qsilica’s reputation for premium inside and out beauty is confirmed within the industry.

In 2015 the launch in Australia and the UK of the Naturally CLEAR 3-Step System offering consumers a natural internal and external solution for skin blemishes, a true innovation in the category. Planet Health continues to break new ground with the launch in 2016 of Qsilica BEAUTY ELIXIR, providing consumers with a nutrient rich beauty focused superfood blend to include in their diets with smoothies and meals. With this antioxidant rich, natural cacao formula, Qsilica continues to nourish the skin from within with nature’s best ingredients.

With a one-company, one-planet business approach, we have ambitious plans already in place to add a succession of new premium quality products to our global portfolio, both our own and those of our carefully chosen partners. Innovative and ethical, the products we both create and distribute are all selected to give real results, with no harm to animals and as close to nature as possible.
